news and stuff

Thanks to all who read Days of Long Shadows and left reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. It will reappear soon, as I have reclaimed the rights from the publisher and am in the process of getting a new cover and typesetting. But, to give you a sense of the book, it is a story where a pair of detectives from Manchester and Glasgow confront the urban criminality that flourishes alongside the green veins of Sheffield – a city that once dominated the country’s steel industry.

While I was writing the book, it was chosen for a free critique from a leading editing and book development company. If you chose to buy it, hopefully, you’ll be as enthusiastic about it as Ray Robinson, award winning novelist and screenwriter, was when he wrote:
“The police procedural is perfectly executed and the torque on the final chapters is brilliant.”
“The novel is tough, vigorous, and sinewy throughout, without a wasted word or moment.”
“At times I was so engrossed in the story I forgot I was meant to be ‘critiquing’ it!”
And he compared the writing to Harlen Corben…

Releasing my crime thriller on an unsuspecting world has been a steep learning curve – I’m okay with writing but all the social media and marketing – a whole new world. Some of the most enjoyable aspects have been interviews and public events. I enjoyed talking to around forty people who came to see me at Wolverhampton Literature Festival and then there was the radio interview with Lee Benson on Black Country Xtra. Check out Lee’s show on the on demand function to catch up on each week’s guests. For those who are fans of the wonderful Ian Rankin and Rebus, here’s a photo of me outside the famous Oxford Bar in Edinburgh – A proper pub.

Similarly, Adrian and Rebecca of Hobeck Books really guided me through their podcast https://shows.acast.com/646f7fb53c7f5e001173a62e/episodes/160-how-clear-is-your-writing-with-tim-franks … I appear 23 minutes into the podcast.

Maybe one or two of you saw me on my panels at I CrimeFest in Bristol?
